Enough is Enough

Hate: It Needs to Stop.

The Asian and Pacific Islander communities are hurting.

It has taken courage, strength, resilience, and unfortunately – a horrific event which took place on March 16th of 2021 – for many Asian Canadians and Americans, including myself, to finally speak up about the rise in anti-Asian racism acts.

Six of the eight lives that were taken during the 2021 Atlanta spa shootings were Asian American women.

It’s horrifying. It’s scary. It’s wrong.

Personally, it’s taken me getting past a huge emotional hurdle to put this up. I know it’s not enough for me to say I am mourning. I know it’s not enough for me to say I’m sorry for the loss of life.

And honestly, I don’t know what else to do.

Resources will be up soon.

For now, I encourage you to reach out to someone you love, someone you care about – to reach out to your community, your friends, anyone you know who may be wondering about their safety purely because of how they look – let them know you’re there for them.

Let’s be there for each other.

In communities where long and rich histories of Asian Canadian and American immigration and culture exists, the acts of anti-Asian racism have soared since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“Because the Asian-American diaspora is so complex, and there’s so many layers, and so many generations have come to America, we’re constantly looked at as foreigners, as others, and then, thus, invisible… All of us come from different cultures, speak different languages, but we’re all being treated as the same. And I think that is leading up to part of the problem.”

“What has changed with the pandemic is people feel like people that look like me are responsible for the pandemic. Our communities have been scapegoated as being responsible for this virus and the ones who started this virus and spread this virus, and so that is something that we carry with us every day.”
